1980 Westerly 33 boat for sale
Goosewing II is a bilge-keeled Westerly 33 launched in 1980, offering seven berths across three cabins and the classic Westerly interior in sapele wood, re-varnished in 2008.
She is powered by a Vetus P4-19 51hp diesel engine (installed 2012, very low use since) and carries a versatile sail wardrobe including mainsail, mizzen, roller reefing genoa, jib, cruising chute and staysail.
Her layout provides an aft cabin, forward cabin, and a spacious saloon with galley, chart table, and heads. She is equipped with Webasto heating, pressurised hot and cold water, Force 10 cooker, fridge, and modern electronics including radar/plotter, GPS, VHF DSC, depth sounder, and autopilot.
Sails
- Arun mainsail and mizzen sails. Both sails in reasonable condition.
- Steadylaunch in-mast roller reefing for both main and mizzen.
- SCRR genoa roller reefing gear.
- Lucas No 1 genoa (1993).
- Sketterick No. 2 working Jib new 2009.
- Cruising chute and mizzen staysail (unknown age).
- Spinnaker pole.
Cockpit
- Positioned aft of amidships, draining overboard through seacocks in the hull bottom.
- Hardwood wheelhouse.
- Cockpit canopy fitted to wheelhouse
- Second cockpit canopy fitted behind Mizzen mast
- Connecting canopy sheet.
- Seat lockers port and starboard sides (both lockable) provide extensive storage.
- Ship’s stainless steel diesel fuel tank in port locker.
- Hand operated bilge pump port side.
- Wooden wheel, incorporated in mizzen mast step.
- Engine key, controls and instruments to hand (to starboard).
- GPS, wind and depth indicators over main hatchway.
- Marine compass.
- Wooden lift for short helm/children. Not fixed.
- Helm’s seat for top of opening to aft cabin.

Engine
- Located and accessed under cockpit by portable weathertight hatch.
- Access also via main cabin, behind removable steps.
- Vetus P4-19, horsepower: 51 hp. This is a 4‑cylinder marine diesel driving through conventional marine gearbox to the stern gear. Hours recorded (Survey, 2012) 2508.2. This is thought to include hours on the previous engine which this engine replaced in 2012 (by previous owner). Very little use (50 hours would be a gross overstatement) since taking possession.
- Engine mounts replaced in about 2011 (by previous owner).
- Always started easily, level of battery notwithstanding.
Navigation equipment
- Plastimo Contest bulkhead compass.
- Cockpit console has Garmin 128 GPS.
- Brookes & Gatehouse Boat Speed, Wind Speed and Direction meters.
- Raymarine RL70 Radar/Chartplotter (new 2007) linked to GPS, Depth Sounder and Autohelm.
- VHF marine DSC radio, Cobra F55, (new October 2011).
- Navigation and steaming lights, tri-colour masthead light. Stern light, new 2015. Thought to be a wiring issue as the item was fitted new, but not tested.
Standing and running rigging
- Main and mizzen masts and spars are by Proctor.
- Standing stainless steel hard wire standing rigging and bottle-screws, 2009.
- Running rigging dates from about 2009.

Deck Fittings
- Lewmar self-tailing winches. Separate genoa/spinnaker winches.
- Mast steps on mizzen mast.
- Two batteries (Main and domestic). Switched (1, 2 or both). Under navigator’s seat.
Aft Cabin
- Small cabin with twin or double berth.
- Limited storage.
- Access to emergency tiller stock. Tiller supplied.
- There is a self-steering gear (wind vane).
Main Cabin
- Open plan with separate heads and hanging locker leading to forepeak with twin/double berths.
- Outfitted in teak faced marine ply.
- Soft furnishings upholstery and headlining in good condition when last seen, around 2018.
- Bookshelves.
- Stereo radio CD player with facility (outlet port) for cockpit speakers.
- TV aerial.
- Navigation station to port with chart table, ships electrical switchgear, twin battery installation with isolator/coupler.

Heads compartment/access to forepeak
- To port, compartment with sea-toilet and washing facilities.
- Discharge to holding tank or out by hand-operated pump.
- Hot & Cold water supply to basin and shower.
- Hanging locker to starboard.
- Forepeak berths (two singles or one double) with shelf space either side and locker space beneath.
- Forepeak gives access to anchor winch motor.
Other information
- Ashore since about 2017.
- Scrubbed and anti-fouled in mid-2017
- Topping lift and rear mast traveler replaced
- Clean Jib sheets and outhall
Modifications for long distance cruising.
- Extra fuel tank (178 ltrs - 39 gals).
- Extra water tanks - three extra flexible tanks (500 ltrs - 109 gals, under cabin sole)
- Lavac marine toilet with a 35 ltr holding tank
